چکیده

As artificial intelligence approaches the human level, the task of designing cognitive tests and challenges for robots becomes critical for clarifying and reproducing elements of the “magic” of human cognition. In solving this task, the store of knowledge of experimental psychology cannot be ignored. At the same time, methods and test paradigms used for evaluation of humans and/or brain models need to be adjusted before they can be used for evaluation of computational agents. The present work introduces new test paradigms and metrics that are adequate to assess higher cognitive features in expected computational agents, while at the same time allowing for comparison with humans. Index Terms – Cognitive evaluation, psychometrics, intelligent agents, cognitive systems, human-level intelligence, machine consciousness, emotional intelligence, IQ, g factor, Turing test.

Neuro-ACT Cognitive Architecture Applications in Modeling Driver’s Steering Behavior in Turns

Cognitive Architectures (CAs) are the core of artificial cognitive systems. A CA is supposed to specify the human brain at a level of abstraction suitable for explaining how it achieves the functions of the mind. Over the years a number of distinct CAs have been proposed by different authors and their limitations and potentials were investigated. These CAs are usually classified as symbolic and...

“Pulling it All Together” via Psychometric AI

Rather long ago, Newell (1973) wrote a prophetic paper that could serve as a rallying cry for this 2004 symposium: “You Can’t Play 20 Questions with Nature and Win.” A number of those concerned with integrated cognition know of this paper, which helped catalyze both modern-day computational cognitive modeling through cognitive architectures (like ACT-R, Soar, Polyscheme, CLARION, etc.), and AI’...

Cognitive Architecture Requirements for Achieving AGI

We outline eight characteristics of the environments, tasks, and agents important for human-level intelligence. Treating these characteristics as influences on desired agent behavior, we then derive twelve requirements for general cognitive architectures. Cognitive-architecture designs that meet the requirements should support human-level behavior across a wide range of tasks, embedded in envir...

Applications of BICA to Intelligence Analysis

This paper describes potential applications of Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures to Intelligence Analysis. The focus of our efforts is on higher level reasoning rather than low level perception. We will never have enough human analysts to read, filter and make sense of all the text data out there. Can some form of BICA help? In this paper we discuss issues related to knowledge acqui...

Use of Response Time for Measuring Cognitive Ability

The purpose of this paper is to review some of the key literature on response time as it has played a role in cognitive ability measurement, providing a historical perspective as well as covering current research. We discuss the speed-level distinction, dimensions of speed and level in cognitive abilities frameworks, speed–accuracy tradeoff, approaches to addressing speed–accuracy tradeoff, ana...
